Aarau, the capital of the Canton of Aargau in the Swiss Mittelland, is located on the River Aare to which the town and canton owe their name. The cantonal capital of Uri is in Reusstal, south of the Vierwaldstättersee lake. A touch of Italianità is already visible in Altdorf’s architecture on the way to the Gotthardpass across the Alps. The legend of Tell, Switzerland’s national hero is omnipresent.
The tradition-rich rural town of Altstätten lies in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley very close to the Austrian border and at the foot of the Alpstein massif. The town prospered thanks to its markets and above all the textile trade.
Situated on a sunny terrace high above the Walensee at the gateway to Heidiland – the holiday region between the Walensee and Sarganserland – lies the resort of Amden. The small historic town of Weesen on the shores of the Walensee also belongs to the small holiday region of Amden-Weesen in the canton of St. Gallen. The two locations of Amden and Weesen complement one another with their summer and winter attractions and combine an Alpine idyll with a southern beach atmosphere.
Amriswil near the Bodensee in Canton Thurgau is a traffic junction, where roads from Romanshorn, Arbon, St. Gallen, Kreuzlingen, Bischofszell and Weinfelden meet. Hagenwil Castle, the only moated castle in Thurgau, is nearby.
The small spa resort of Andeer lies in the Shamsertal (Val Schons), a section of the Hinterrheintal. Famed for its rugged gorges and mineral spa, Andeer lies on the road to the Splügen and San Bernardino passes.

Andermatt (1436 m), the largest of the three villages in the valley, is at the crossroads of the mountain passes from north to south and from east to west.
Anzère lies on a sunny terrace 1500 m above the Rhone Valley and only 15 kilometres from Sitten, the canton capital. It emerged as a winter sports resort in the 1960s and commands magnificent views of the Rhone Valley and Valais Alps, making Anzère wonderful walking country in summer, too, with interesting tours along the historic suonen
Anzonico nests high on the eastern flank of the Valle Leventina over the Biaschina gorge. It lies on the Strada Alta, a hiking route high above the busy valley. The Gotthard Railway negotiates its tortuous path through the valley in loop tunnels.
